Sequel to the three-month ultimatum issued to Igbos by the Coalition of Northern Youths, CNY, to vacate the north, the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign States of Biafra, MASSOB, has called on Igbos living in the northern part of Nigeria to start returning home.
Recall that prominent Northern youth organisations, on Tuesday, June 6, rose from a joint meeting called ‘Kaduna Declaration’ to issue a serious threat to the Igbos residing in the region urging them to begin making arrangements to relocate out of the North.
The groups gave the Igbos until October 1, this year to leave the region, threatening that after then, it will begin to prove to the whole world that the North was no longer part of any federal union that has anything to do with the Igbos.
Their declaration was premised on the shut-down of major towns in the south-eastern part of the country on May 30, by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and their sponsors.

In a statement on Tuesday, June 6, at the popular Arewa House Kaduna, northern youths made it clear that the region was tired of the marriage with the Igbos hence the need for them to leave their land.
Reacting to the news, MASSOB said the quit notice did not come as a “surprise” and consequently, told Ndigbo not to wait for the three-month before leaving the region.
According to MASSOB leader, Comrade Uche Madu;
“MASSOB is aware that such rascality will happen. As a matter of fact, this is the only rascality exhibited by sponsored Arewa youths to forcefully exit the people of Biafra residing in Arewa land that MASSOB will 100 per cent support. Their Boko Haram tactics didn’t work as planned. We pledge our total support towards this divinely approved quit notice.

“MASSOB congratulates the Arewa political, religious, traditional and opinion leaders who sponsored their youths wing by using Arewa House in Kaduna for this greatest meeting of a coalition of Islamic fundamentalist.
“As there is no other alternative to stopping Biafra freedom, the northern leaders have resorted to using their youths wing to start terrorising the people of Biafra living in the northern region. What they saw during the sit-at-home exercise to mark the 50th-anniversary celebration of Biafra declaration by General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu marveled them irrespective of the promises made to them by their stooges in Biafra land.
“MASSOB urge our people to start returning home now. Don’t wait till the three months for quit notice to expire. MASSOB is begging our people to reinvest their investments back to Biafra land.”
Also reacting to the statement, the Deputy Publicity Secretary of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mr. Chuks Ibegbu, described it as treasonable, urging the Department of State Services and the police, to take immediate steps to forestall any plan to launch attacks against the Igbo in the North.

“The DSS, the police and other security agencies should take note of the statement by the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum and the other Northern groups for issuing this threat against the Igbo.
“It should not be seen as an empty threat; urgent action is needed to foil the plan to attack the Igbo in the North. It happened in the past and we don’t want it to happen again.
“In fact, Yerima Shettima should be arrested by the DSS immediately. We are watching to see what the DSS would do in this situation.
“Shettima’s statement is treasonable; he is inciting one section of the country against another section and we know from experience that this sort of thing could lead to a civil war. His utterances could destroy this country.”
