The Nigeria Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed the Sit-at-home order declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for May 30, 2024, labelling it as mere propaganda that would not hold sway.
Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, made this declaration during a biweekly media briefing with Defence Correspondents in Abuja.
IPOB had earlier announced the sit-at-home order to honour Biafran warlords who lost their lives in the civil war.
According to a statement by the group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the annual sit-at-home event expects all Igbo, both in Nigeria and the diaspora, to celebrate the fallen heroes by staying in their homes and praying for their souls.
As usual, the group has ordered all business premises, schools, markets, motor parks and other public places to be shut down for just that day.
However, the DHQ has described the order as mere propaganda and assured the public that it would not be allowed to disrupt peace and order.
